Fun book. There's no really strong message. A man named Mr. Brown can make a bunch of different noises of things, and the book asks the reader/listener whether they can mimic the noises as well. There's a lot of fun onomatopoeia. While "moo" and "buzz" are common words, it includes noises like a hippopotamus chewing gum ("grum grum grum grum") and other fanciful, playful sounds. The meter isn't quite as obvious in some sections as others. The illustrations are typical Seuss, with bright colors and stylized characters and animals. There's nothing really to it. It's enjoyable and light. My kids enjoy making funny noises. Silly things are attractive to children. The imaginative, whimsical aspects of this book are great. There's no real message to it, but it might encourage children to use their imagination and be more descriptive of things.

Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You? Blue Back Book Dr Seuss Blue Back Book Dr Seuss 9780007169917 Books Reviews
My 10 month old LOVES this book. She lights up every time we read this to her. She also grabs it and pretends to read it turning it around in her hands. So great.
We do funny sound effects and really get into reading for her. I think that is so important to do in order to engage your baby/child when reading.
I purchased the board book as a gift for a friend’s newborn and I guess I should have considered the book’s dimensions more closely. The book is tiny! To be fair, the listing isn’t misleading but it is still an awfully small book.
The book itself is great and seems like it will be durable. I have fond memories of reading Dr. Seuss books growing up, and the pictures are always entertaining.
I don't have the heart to tell Mr brown that some of the noises he makes aren't very good. But just when you're like "this guy is a hack", he goes and knocks it out of the park with his impression of a rhino chewing gum. Its spot on. Yet his impression of lightning is somewhat lacking. SPLAT? not his best work.
Our toddler loves being read to, and at his age (under 2 years) a book with rhythm really makes for a fun experience for him since obviously he can't read himself. This is a great one for when he's in a lap, sitting quietly and listening. In addition, this books offer lots of breaks where you can pause and ask him to repeat the sound he just heard. He enjoys trying out the noises and has begun predicting which one is on which page.
I'm all for introducing my child to sounds, and I get that the sound of raindrops is difficult to make, certainly difficult to spell. But maybe that just means the child should be interested to more spellable sounds via books and they can learn what rain sounds like by hearing rain?
Still though, it's a board book which I like for my very little one and it's small for small hands. And there are plenty of sounds in the book that you CAN pronounce. So it's not all bad. I just skip the rain page.
Love this book! This is the second one we have bought because we wore out our first. This has a very easy flow to the read. Lots of "sound-words" that my toddlers love to hear. I love this one from Dr. Seuss so much that I would even purchase it a third time if need be.
This is an amazing book where my child learned how to make different sounds. My child loved that I talked to him in different tones and volumes. The book is very durable. I bought the book when he was 12 months old and has lasted through 9 months of banging, smacking, and throwing, Granted, I have repaired it numerous times with tape, I still find this book to be pretty durable. A tip to making board books last longer - laminate them with tape before giving it to your child. I've learned after having to repair several board books.
