The novel caught my rapt attention at first with its reprise of Etta Place, the woman in the Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid triangle. Jefferson Morgan and his anthropologist friend were entertaining in their dialogue and quest to determine the identity of a corpse in Etta's grave(if it was in fact her grave). Up until that point, we had a clever premise for a novel. Then all hell broke loose and we are up to our necks in extreme right wing conspiracies, necrophilia porn sites, and meth dealers. It became absurd. I was highly disappointed in the ending which was like a bad television drama. Three stars is a gift.Tags : The Obituary (Jefferson Morgan Mysteries Book 2) - Kindle edition by Ron Franscell. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. The Obituary Jefferson Morgan Mysteries Book 2 edition by Ron Franscell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
An author who develops the complications of friendships when it crosses over into professional lives with ease. Small towns you know everyone, or do you?. Excellent written mystery that has you trying to figure out the legend then a murder when it seems all hell breaks loose. Don't miss it.
I'm probably the only person of my generation who hasn't seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid , but now I plan to watch it. I'm sure the history in this book is more accurate than the movie! I liked the main character and the story and will probably read others in the series.
I got drawn into the story and the characters. The descriptive writing was very beautiful, with a turn of phrase at times that was so unusual I highlighted them to be able to read them again.
Gingerly I walked through this book but it was great... not a blood at any cost like of story, OK some blood and at great cost to some of the bad guys and a couple of good guys. Why kill off the college students? Not sure. Or the poor truck driver at the beginning. Not sure. Just finished up last night and I'm not going on any road trips for a while. Yes, it was that good.
This small-town thriller, set in Winchester, Wyoming, follows a twisting path through truck stop killers, late-night gunfire, and a long-dead woman who may just have been Etta Place, of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid fame... the writing is spare, but evocative, and the dialog convincing. I may have to go back and read the first in the series, having found it through this entry!
Wonderful read! A beautifully written mystery, full of small-town charm that I can well appreciate, exciting twists and compelling characters.
I loved how easily the author kindled investment in the lives and happenings of these fictional characters. Although it started off a tiny bit slow for me, it felt like one minute I was at 25% and then I looked again and it was 86%. The storyline seriously ramped up at that point. Enough that I actually uttered aloud "WHOA!" - totally forgetting where I was and that no-one else knew what all the excitement was about. Once that happened it was pretty much impossible to put down.
Even though this is the second in the series, I believe it can be read as a stand-alone. I didn't read the first one and didn't find I was lost at all. That said, I will be adding the first one in the series to my To-Be-Read list/mountain and following the author's future work.
Absolutely enjoyed reading from beginning to end! The story really kept you guessing who were the good one and bad ones. Fell in love with characters and wish the story never ended. Thank you for a great mystery read!
A Forensic Anthropologist travels to Wyoming to examine the remains of who he thinks is Etta Place. What he finds is a headless corpse in her coffin that belongs to an unknown male, He teams up with Morgan who is a writer for the local newspaper. What follows next will have you on the edge of your seat as you go through the twists & turns to solve the mystery. A great read
